Mary Jane Beggs passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021 to be with her Lord and Savior.
She was born on May 31, 1934, in Atlanta, Ga., and was the daughter of Edward and Mildred Merritt.
She had one brother, Ed Merritt, who preceded her in death; a sister-in-law, Sara Merritt; two nephews, Ed Merritt, III and Mark Merritt; and a niece, Nancy Merritt.
She married Tommy Beggs on Aug. 17, 1961. Together they had three children: Mitzi Wilson, Suzi Stone and Chip Beggs; two sons-in-law, Bryan Wilson and Bobby Stone; and 10 grandchildren: Elsa Wilson Cruz (Gustavo), Ian Wilson (Jackie), Hannah Wilson, Elliott Wilson, Evan Wilson, Bo Stone (Heidi), Jessi Stone, Jami Stone, Elena Beggs and John Beggs.
Mary Jane graduated from Washington Seminary in 1952 and the University of Tennessee, with a Bachelor of Arts degree, in 1955. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She was employed by Delta Airlines for five and a half years as a flight attendant and was based in Miami, Fla.; Houston, Texas; and Atlanta, Ga.
She loved her church, family and friends, and devoted her life to making her home a welcome spot for everyone. She served for two years as president of the United Methodist Women and for five years as coordinator of the First United Methodist Church’s Bible school, in Madison. Her greatest pride was in being a mother and grandmother.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, at 11 a.m., at Oak Ridge Cemetery, in Madison.
