Mrs. Mary Lou Flynn Lasseter, age 83, was carried by angels to heaven on Thursday, July 8, 2021 in Valdosta, Ga. Mary wrote a song that says, “I'll Sing Like An Angel.” The song was recorded by her daughter, Brenda Lasseter McCormick, and was always on their list of songs that was everyone's favorite to sing at concerts.
Mary Lou was born in Lee, Fla. to D.B and Rosa Ollie Rye Flynn; and a great Step Mother, Ruth Green Flynn. She has lived in Lee all of her life. She was a member of Lee Worship Center where she and her husband pastored. Rev. and Mrs. Mary Lou Lasseter had worked in the ministry for over 63 years. She was a Sunday School Teacher and drove the church van to pick up people for church. She loved to sing, she also loved to read, make clothes for her family, do embroidery and shop. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked at several nursing homes. She volunteered at local community events, and was recognized by the Governor, Mayor of Lee and Sheriff Joe Peavey for her life time endeavors. She and her husband were honored to be chosen as the Grand Marshals of the Community of Lee Homecoming Parade.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 year's, Rev. Charles Lasseter. Mary Lou and Charles leaves behind their five children, three boys and two girls: Brenda Lasseter McCormick, (Allen) of Lee; Charles Trent Lasseter Sr. (Suzanne) of Ty Ty, Ga., Anthony Kent Lasseter (Tammi) of Madison, Brent Dion Lasseter of Lee and Lori Lasseter Tyre (Bobby) of Lee; grandchildren: Jed McCormick (Christina), Ridge McCormick, Crystal Abbe, Sonny Lasseter, Anthony Lasseter, Ronnie Humphrey, Ashley Humphrey and Mindy Lasseter; great-grandchildren: Chad McCormick, Terralyn McCormick, Kayli McCormick, Awstin McCormick, Hayden, Tyler, Kyleigh McCormick, Christopher Hutchins, Jonathan Hutchins, Nevaeh and Waylon Phillips, Hanna Lasseter, Alyssa Lasseter, Logan, Hartley, Conner, Haley and Valor Lasseter. Mary Lou's four Brother's, Tommy, Danny, Wayne (wife Barbara) and Robert Flynn; sisters: Diane Polatty, (Ray), Cindy Spencer, (Ronnie) and Ollie Crews.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, July 11, at 3 p.m. at the Lee Worship Center Church in Lee. Interment followed at Stonewall Cemetery in Lee with Pastor, Tommy T. Thigpen officiating and Pastor Bryant Thigpen co-officiating and singing.
