Service, scholarship, character and leadership - these are the qualities observed in the 10 new members of Madison Creative Arts Academy's MCAA) Junior Beta Club. The Beta Club is an international non-profit organization that recognizes students' academic accomplishments and develops their leadership potential. On Monday, Jan. 27, MCAA had the honor to welcome these 10 new members into their chapter.
The evening started with a welcome from Beta President Gracie Jenkins. The members, both new and old, then served their families dinner, living out the Beta motto, "Let us lead by serving others."
After dinner, the induction ceremony began with a recognition of each member by Sponsor Andrea Krell. Erin Burnett and Kiley Malone explained the service projects and events in which the chapter has participated, including organizing Red Ribbon Week, tutoring fellow students and raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Beta Officers lit five candles, each one representing the different qualities a Beta must have. The inductees then repeated the Beta pledge, striving to always be of service to their community, to be honest and to reflect well upon their school.
Following the pledge, the new Betas were pinned by Executive Director Janna Barrs and greeted by the officers. The ceremony concluded with the spreading of candlelight to each of the chapter's 23 members.
