On Tuesday, April 28, two Madison Creative Arts Academy (MCAA) eighth graders received a pleasant surprise. Josie Driggers and Reagan Jones were visited by the school's Principal, Janna Barrs, and Assistant Principal, Andrea Krell, to announce Driggers as Valedictorian and Jones as Salutatorian of the class of 2020. Family members and friends were on hand to celebrate with them, and each girl received balloons and a yard sign congratulating them on their achievement.
Josie Driggers, daughter of Heath and Becky Driggers, is a member of the First Baptist Church of Madison. She is in the MCAA Junior Beta Club. She played volleyball and softball for the Panthers and is on a travel softball team named the Batbusters. Next year, she plans to go to James Madison Preparatory High School (JMPHS). After high school, she hopes to go to school to become a pharmacist.
Reagan Jones, daughter of TJ and Summer Jones, is a member of the First Baptist Church of Madison. She is in the MCAA Junior Beta Club. She is a level 9 competitive gymnast for Taylor Gymnastics in Perry, Fla. For high school, she also plans to attend JMPHS. After high school, she hopes to go to either Auburn University or the University of North Carolina on a gymnastics scholarship to become a pharmacist.
Both students said they were shocked by the announcement and even more so when their principal showed up at their doorsteps. Driggers commented, "I always work to get good grades, so being chosen as valedictorian made it even better." Jones made similar remarks, saying, "I've always cared about my grades and making all A's. I was more worried about my grades and not really the award."
Barrs commented, "We are very excited to be able to honor these two individuals. They've both worked very hard to obtain valedictorian and salutatorian. We are so proud of them and can't wait to see what they do in high school." Congratulations, ladies, on all your hard work and achievements.
