At 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, Madison Creative Arts Academy (MCAA) held their school-wide Tropicana Speech Contest. MCAA showed extreme care for the safety of contestants, judges, families and staff. Everyone in attendance maintained social distancing and wore masks. In addition, temperatures were checked prior to entry.
A total of nine students were awarded medals for their outstanding achievement. Sixth grade winners were: Layla Peavy in first place for her performance of "The great outdoors," Sadie Curtis won second place for her performance of "Church camp rules" and Caleb Richardson was awarded third place for his performance of "The history of trains."
Fifth grade winners were: Megan Bass in first place for her performance of "Saved the best for last," Summer McLeod in second place for her performance of "School: Does is help or hurt?" and Riley Sheffield in third place for his performance of "The life of an ant."
Fourth grade winners were: Reagan Webb, taking first place for her performance of "My dog is cooler than your dog," Grant Thurner in second place for his performance of "Pros and cons of screen time" and Fraleigh Hardee won third place for her performance of "My chinchilla."
All the contestants did an outstanding job. First place winners, Layla Peavy, Megan Bass and Reagan Webb will proceed to the district-wide competition taking place on Thursday, Dec. 3, at 9 a.m., at Madison County Central School.
