Madison County Central School teachers participated in a three-day learning experience called, Capturing Kids’ Hearts on June 9-11. The course taught the teachers tools to build positive, productive, trusting relationships among themselves and with their students.
“I am excited that Dr. Miles gave us this opportunity to learn new techniques to apply in the classroom,” said Mandy Koratsky, a 7th grade teacher at MCCS. According to Capturing Kids’ Hearts instructor Kirk Stinson, the program teaches how to create positive culture in a classroom. They believe if you capture kids’ hearts, you will capture their minds.
Jeremy Weatherspoon will start his first year teaching at MCCS in August. During the course he learned two techniques that he plans to use in his classroom: icebreakers and greeting everyone with a professional handshake. He feels that with these new techniques he will be able to approach his students more confidently when school starts.
