On Sunday, Oct. 11, at 9:36 a.m., the Madison Fire Department (MFD) and Madison County Fire & Rescue (MCFR) responded to a fire at a residence located on Saint Thomas Church Rd. MFD arrived first to find that the fire had already burned through the roof and ventilated itself. Nonetheless, they began the initial attack. The firefighters that arrived on scene from MFD were Patrick Titus, Ethan Shannon and Andy Tellefsen.

About ten minutes after MFD's arrival, MCFR arrived on scene as well. By the time they got there, the fire had been tamed tremendously, allowing them to run into the home and try to salvage whatever they possibly could. Matt Lunn and Hayden Allen entered the home with a tarp in hand. They trekked carefully through the smoky home and spotted an elegant piano. They immediately took action to cover it, ultimately preserving its value and beauty.
The total time from the moment of the call to the time of completion was approximately 40 minutes. After an initial attack with water from the outside, MFD went in to quench the fire completely. After searching for hotspots and following protocol and procedures, they cleared the scene and returned back to the station. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
