The band program at Madison County High School (MCHS), along with the Sentinel Jazz Combo from North Florida College (NFC) held a spring concert on Tuesday, May 2, at Van H. Priest Auditorium, on the NFC campus.
The evening began with a pair of numbers by the Sentinel Jazz Combo, under the leadership of Jay Hicks. The combo performed Hicks' arrangement of the Billy Joel tune “Zanzibar,” followed by the Freddie Hubbard jazz classic, “Little Sunflower.”
The MCHS Concert Band took the stage and performed a variety of selections, including a march, a classic hymn and a medley of Earth, Wind and Fire tunes, to the delight of many in the audience.
The MCHS Jazz Ensemble performed several popular tunes, including the Herbie Hancock classic “Watermelon Man,” John Coltrane's “Blue Train” and the classic rhythm and blues song, “My Girl,” by Smokey Robinson.
The evening also included dance routines performed by the MCHS Color Guard.
