Superior team speed was the key to victory as the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys routed district foe Bell High School 45-0 on Friday, Sept. 23 at Boot Hill Stadium. The Cowboys got the scoring started early with a rushing touchdown midway through the first quarter and the Cowboys went forward from there. Special teams and defense for the Cowboy also got in on the scoring, including a 55 yard punt return for a touchdown, and an interception return for a touchdown.
While the Cowboys continued to move the ball effectively on the ground, their passing attack also showed signs of improvement. Cowboys quarterback Tre Adams completed four passes out of 10 attempts for 87 yards of passing. The Cowboys scored on three touchdown passes, including a 35 yard touchdown connection to Deonte Robinson. On the ground, the Cowboys rushed for a total of 179 yards on 23 rushing plays. The leading rusher for the Cowboys was Derrick Staten, who had five rushes for 65 yards, scoring one touchdown. Zion Jones also had 27 yards rushing on two attempts, scoring one touchdown.
It was a dominating performance by the Cowboys in all phases of the game. The Defensive Player of the Week for the Cowboys was Ahmontaye Hill. The Offensive Players of the Week were Ta Ronn Johnson and Deonte Robinson. The Special Teams Players of the Week were the entire punt return team.
The next game on the Cowboys schedule will be on the road against the Tigers of Jefferson County Middle/High School. The game will be on Friday, Sept. 30. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Jefferson County Middle/High School.
