On Dec. 1, the JV and Varsity Cowboys basketball teams traveled to Tallahassee to play against the Florida High Seminoles. JV would be the first team to play in the non-conference game, coached by James Mobley. The Cowboys immediately went to work and led the first quarter of the game by two. Coming into the second quarter, the Seminoles picked up on defense which led to several turnovers by the Cowboys. The Seminoles managed to tie the game going into halftime with a score of 13-13. The third quarter was ultimately the deciding factor of the game. The Seminoles came out going to work breaking the tie and outscoring the Cowboys by a total of nine points. The Cowboys fought to the end, but unfortunately would come up short. Seminoles defeated the Cowboys with a final score of 40-25. Jamorris Collins led the Cowboys in scoring with a total of 11 points; he also had two steals in the game. Other leading Cowboy performers included: Stevie Williams: seven points and two steals; Devin Norwood scored two points and had seven rebounds, one block and one steal; Freddie Weatherspoon had three rebounds, one assist and four steals. The Varsity Cowboys, coached by Allen Demps, took the floor for their matchup against the Seminoles. The Seminoles took possession of the first quarter immediately outscoring the Cowboys. The Cowboys were off to a slow start struggling offensively. The Seminoles finished the first, quarter leading by 11 points. The Cowboys would not go down without a fight picking up on defense, they managed to outscore the Seminoles by six, going into halftime trailing by only five points. The Cowboys were able to maintain the momentum in the third quarter finally taking the lead going into the fourth quarter up by three points. The Seminoles found themselves in foul trouble and by the fourth quarter in double bonus. The Cowboys were able to capitalize on free throws, outscoring the Seminoles in the fourth quarter by seven points. The Cowboys would come out with a win with a final score of 49-59. Josiah Mitchell had an awesome game; he led the Cowboys in scoring with a total of 20 points; he also had 13 rebounds, two steals and one block. Other leading Cowboy performers included: Bailey Browning, with eight points and six rebounds; Sanchez Turner with eight points, nine rebounds, one assist and one steal; Kris Allen, with seven points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block; and Dilan Lawson with seven points, two rebounds and one assist.
