For their first game of the Destin Holiday Classic, the Madison County High School Varsity Cowgirls' basketball team faced off against the North Bullit Eagles of Kentucky in a neutral tournament game held on Monday, Dec. 28 at 1:45 p.m. The Cowgirls lost with a tight score of 59-56. In the first quarter, the Cowgirls led with a score of 17-14 and in the second quarter with a final score of 15-8. In the third quarter, the Eagles defeated the Cowgirls with a final score of 16-8 and in the fourth quarter with a score of 21-16.
Jameica Cobb was the top scorer of the game, scoring a total of 25 points. Josie Long and Tamiera Mobley both scored 14 points each. Adrianna Kinsey contributed with a total of three points scored.
With that defeat, MCHS moved on to a record of 11-4.
After their loss against the Eagles, the Cowgirls traveled to Wildwood to face off against the Wildwood Wildcats on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 10:15 a.m. In the first quarter, the Cowgirls took the lead with a final score of 10-6 and in the second quarter by one point with a final score of 13-12. In the third quarter, the Cowgirls remained victorious with a final score of 13-8. In the fourth quarter, the Wildcats broke the Cowgirls' winning streak and scored 16-8. Despite a good effort from the Wildcats in the last quarter, the Cowgirls were left undefeated and won by two points with a final score of 44-42.
Cobb scored a total of 26 points, while Long scored 12 points. Mobley scored three points, Samantha Anderson scored two points and Travecia Fead contributed with one point.
In their next game held Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 10:15 a.m., the Cowgirls faced their final opponent, the Niceville Eagles. In the first quarter, the Cowgirls won by one point, with a final score of 14-13. In the second quarter, the Cowgirls took the lead with a final score of 10-6 but fell short in the third quarter, as the Eagles won with a score of 9-5. In the very last quarter, the Cowgirls recovered from their loss in the third quarter and made a close win, finishing the quarter up with a final score of 9-8. By the end of the game, the Cowgirls were able to defeat the Eagles by two points with a final score of 38-36.
Mobley was the leading scorer of the game, scoring a total of 17 points. Cobb followed behind with a total of 15 points scored. Fead contributed with four points and Kinsey scored two points.
The MCHS Cowgirls currently hold an overall record of 13-4.
