The Madison County High School Cowgirls basketball team faced off against the Columbia Tigers on Tuesday, Dec. 1, with JV playing at 6 p.m. and Varsity playing at 7:30 p.m. The JV girls were fierce right from the start, winning against the Tigers in the first two quarters of the game, with the first quarter won with a score of 12-4 and the second quarter 11-0. While the Tigers took the lead in the third quarter with a score of 13-3, MCHS struck back in the last quarter with a score of 16-11 and ultimately defeated the Tigers with a final score of 42-28. Varsity ripped apart the Tigers as well, with the odds in their favor in every quarter. In the first quarter, Varsity won with a massive win of 26-5 and in the second quarter 15-5. In the third quarter, Varsity was still shining, with a score of 11-4. In the last quarter, the Tigers only scored one point, with Varsity crushing them with 12 points. Varsity came out on top with a final score of 64-12. Jameica Cobb was the leading scorer for the game, with a total of 25 points scored; Tamiera Mobley scored 19 points. Josie Long contributed with eight points, and Niyah Hall and Travecia Fead both scored four points. Adrianna Kinsey and Kevisa Moore both scored two points. On Saturday, Dec. 5, MCHS traveled to Valdosta to play against the Lowndes County Vikings. JV played at 4 p.m., and Varsity played at 6:30 p.m. JV unfortunately fell to the Vikings with a final score of 31-25, just six points from a win, but Varsity struck back pretty hard, clobbering the Vikings with a final score of 73-67. It was a nail-biting game throughout, with Varsity in the lead in the first quarter 18-11. The Vikings fell short by four points in the second quarter, with Varsity remaining on top with a score of 18-14. In the third quarter, Varsity held 18 points, but lost to the Vikings 22-18. In the last quarter, Varsity lost by one point with a score of 20-19; however, Varsity managed to stay victorious and ultimately crushed the Vikings. Cobb led her team yet again, scoring a total of 36 points. Mobley scored 18 points, with Long scoring 14 points. Moore contributed with four points and Kinsey scored one point.
