On Thursday, May 5, the Future Farmers of America (FFA) Banquet was held at Madison County High School (MCHS), with different awards presented to the MCHS FFA members.
The Star Greenhand award is presented to the most active first-year student. Caden Horne was presented with the Star Greenhand award. The Start Chapter Farmer award goes to the student with the best production of Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). Ethan Bochnia was presented with the Star Chapter Farmer award. The next award went to Caleb Glavich, for the Star Agribusiness award. The Star Agribusiness award goes to the best SAE working at an agriculture-related business.
In June, FFA members will receive their State FFA Degree at the FFA State Convention. These members include Abby Ratliff, Bailey Hackle, Carter Gore, Olivia Galbraith, Shelby Burt, Peyton Pierce, Coleman Williams, and Ethan Bochnia. In October, two FFA members will receive the American Degree at the National FFA Convention. The American Degree is the highest award the FFA can give to FFA members. These two members are Madison Fishel and JD Peavy.
The community presented a few sponsored awards to FFA members at the banquet. The Farm Bureau Leadership Award was presented to Carter Gore. The FFA Scholarship sponsored by the Farmer's Cooperative was presented to Abby Ratliff. Coleman Williams has presented the George Townsend Helping Hand award which was sponsored by the Townsend Family. The LJ Technical Scholarship, sponsored by the Peavy Family, was presented to Ethan Bochnia. The Dekalb Award was presented to Olivia Galbraith.
The FFA Banquet also presented the Honorary Chapter Degree to the community, school board members, and faculty that have supported FFA. The Honorary Chapter Degree award went to Alvita Howard and Jarrett Wood. Also at the FFA Banquet, certificates of appreciation were given to people who had helped MCHS FFA throughout the year.
