On Saturday, November 28, the Madison County High School Varsity boys’ basketball team traveled to Tallahassee to participate in the Thanksgiving tournament hosted by Rickards High. The Cowboys played one game in the tournament against the Jefferson County Tigers. Winning the first possession of the game, the Cowboys took charge of the game, leading in the beginning of the first quarter by 12 points. The Tigers managed to close the gap going into halftime trailing the Cowboys by eight points. The score for the first half of the game was 37-29, with the Cowboys in the lead. The Cowboys took the court after halftime struggling a bit offensively but managed to outscore the Tigers in the third and fourth quarters of the game. Ultimately, the game came down to defense and free throws. The Cowboys’ defense proved to be a bit much for the Tigers; they were able to capitalize on the steals made and the fouls committed by the Tigers. The Tigers struggled at the free throw line, making only six of 18 attempted free throws. The Cowboys defeated the Tigers with a final score of 66-54. Kris Allen had an awesome game with a total of 27 points, four rebounds and three assists. Other top performers for the Cowboys included: Sanchez Turner with 12 points and five rebounds, Bailey Browning with eight points, eight rebounds and three steals and Vincenta Mitchell with five points, three rebounds, six assists and six steals.
