The Madison County High School (MCHS) girls volleyball season began on Monday, Sept. 7 at home in the MCHS gymnasium. On the court with the Cowgirls were the Lady Hornets of Lafayette High School. It was obvious from the enthusiastic response that fans of both programs were more than ready for some good competition, and the young athletes did not disappoint.
The first match of the evening was between the two junior varsity programs. In the first set of that match, the Cowgirls edged out the Lady Hornets with a 25-22 score. The Lady Hornets bounced back to take the final two sets, 25-23 and 15-13. The Lady Hornets took the match, 2-1.
The second match of the evening had the two varsity teams squaring off. This was another close, hard fought match with the lead switching hands several times. The Cowgirls took the first set, 25-15. The Lady Hornets bounced back and won the next three sets, 25-15, 25-19 and 25-16. The Lady Hornets won the match, 3-1.
On Tuesday, Sept. 8, the Cowgirls went on the road to Monticello to face the Lady Warriors of Aucilla Christian Academy. The Lady Warriors were victorious in straight sets; 25-15, 25-18 and 25-16.
On Thursday, Sept. 10, the Cowgirls hosted the Lady Trojans from Hamilton County High School. In the junior varsity match, the Cowgirls were the winners in two straight sets, 25-14 and 25-20. In the evening's varsity match, the Cowgirls continued to please the home crowds with a 3-0 win; 25-15, 25-12 and 25-16.
On Friday, Sept. 11, the varsity Cowgirls had a tough match with the Lady Bulldogs of Suwannee High School. Both teams fought hard and, in the end, the Cowgirls fell short, 1-3. The set scores show how close the match was, 26-24, 21-25, 22-25 and 19-25.
The next home match for the Cowgirls is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19, at 3 p.m. against the Lady Trojans of Brooks County High School, from Quitman, Ga.
