A Lee man was arrested by the Madison County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) on Tuesday, July 28, just 28 minutes after midnight, after methamphetamine was discovered in his vehicle bearing a temporary tag which reportedly expired in 2018.
Dustin Ray Perry, 33, was stopped in the State Road 53 Mobil Gas Station parking lot by MCSO Deputy R. Lowe after he observed a white Ford Explorer with a confirmed two-year expired temporary tag, "acting suspiciously traveling from the Mobil Gas Station to Jimmie's Autoport then back to the Mobil," the report stated.
Deputy Lowe made contact with Perry, who was attempting to shut off his vehicle. Deputy Lowe observed a blue pipe, used to smoke marijuana, located under the dash, in line with the center console. The deputy asked Perry if there was anything illegal inside the vehicle to which he advised he only had a marijuana pipe. Deputy Lowe proceeded to request assistance from Sgt. E. Brannon for routine back-up and a search.
During the search, a blue rubber tube with white powder residue inside was located; the residue tested positive for methamphetamine. Also located was a scale with a bag with what appeared to be suspected marijuana inside. Additionally, Sgt. Brannon found a glass pipe and what appeared to be a make-shift water bong made out of a Gatorade bottle.
Perry was arrested and transported to the Madison County Jail without further incident. He was charged with possession/sell of methamphetamine, possession of cannabis under 20 grams and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Perry was also cited for the unlawful use of a temporary tag and no vehicle registration, which was discovered during the stop.
The report adds that all substances were weighed for processing into evidence upon arrival at the jail. The amount of suspected methamphetamine could not be extracted from the tube. The suspected methamphetamine and the tube weighed approximately 12 grams. Additionally, the suspected marijuana was weighed in the original packaging and indicated a weight of four grams. The suspected marijuana will be sent to the lab for analysis.
