Merv Mattair was announced as the 2015 Citizen of the Year for Madison County on Friday, April 17 during the Down Home Days festivities. Mattair is a motivational speaker and author who resides in Madison. He is married to his Queen Denise and they have two children: a 19-year-old daughter, Lyric and a six-year-old son, TJ. He is a contractor who has contracts with health departments, Healthy Start, Whole Child, Live the Life, the University of South Florida and more. Mattair is also employed with the Madison County Health Department as a Sexual Risk Avoidance Specialist and Health Educator. He educates youth through the use of evidence-based curriculums to make responsible choices when it comes to sex and other risky behaviors. Mattair has coached community football for the past nine years, where he teaches young men about life through the sport. He is also the founder of the grassroots organization, Boyz to KINGS. Through the organization, the parents and male role models work together as one family to keep young men from going down the wrong road in life and embed positive images in their mind to honor and value family and women, be responsible and be accountable. The group was established five years ago and runs without grant money. It functions on faith, love and passion. Mattair is also a three-time author of the books: Words To My King and Queens; Words From My King and Queens; and My Royal Swag: Viewing Life in HD.
