Michael Oren Sweeney, 69, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020 in Lee, Fla. surrounded by his loving family. Michael was born on Oct. 31, 1950 in Washington, D.C. to Norman Wilmore and Amanda Sweeney (Hall).
He was of the Baptist faith and attended Fellowship Baptist Church in Madison, Fla. Michael worked as an Engineering Consultant for many years in Washington, D.C. After retiring, he pursued his love of baseball as a scout for the New York Mets. His true passion was his 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Wilmore and Amanda Sweeney (Hall).
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marie Sweeney; his children: Jennifer Niquette (Mike) of Lee, Fla, Kelly Moody (Jeff) of Louisville, Kentucky, Michelle Sawall (Steven) of Neenah, Wis., and Mikey Sweeney (Venessa); his brother, Ronald Sweeney (Donnalynn) of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland; his grandchildren: Sarah Paulus (Jake), Gavin Niquette, Riley Niquette, Avery Niquette, CJ Moody, Lucy Moody, Anna Roberts, Elise Roberts, Michael Roberts, Caroline Roberts, Georgiana Roberts, Clint Roberts, Abigail Sawall, Addison Sweeney, Brooklyn Sweeney and Ireland Sweeney; his great grandchildren Isabella Paulus, Allyson Paulus, Natalie Paulus and Magdalene Paulus; his nephew, Christian Sweeney (Patrice); as well as a host of nieces (Dawn and Donelle) and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later time. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Madison.
