Matt Thompson of Madison has joined Midway Baptist in Lee as the new pastor. Thompson has served in many different levels of the church, including a Youth Pastor at Cornerstone Community in Perry. Thompson grew up in church most of his life but never really took a hold on Christ until he turned 18 when the preacher of his church said something that inspired him. It was then he realized he needed Christ in his life. “It became evident I wasn't living life the way God wanted me to,” said Thompson. Thompson then got involved to share the gospel message and started ministering to youth and young adults. After wanting to pursue the position of a pastor, Thompson started to get his name out there and began speaking at various churches around the county.
He spoke at Midway Baptist for about a month, and when Midway was looking for a pastor, Thompson was asked to fill the position. “It kind of clicked,” said Thompson. “[My] main goal for the church is to help people into a growing relationship with Christ starting where they are,” said Thompson. He feels the biggest priority of the church is sharing the gospel, loving God and loving people. Thompson has been married to his wife Devin for seven years. He has two children: Grayson, four, and Brynlee, two. He attends Liberty University and is currently pursuing a degree in Theology. His favorite scripture is Timothy 2:15: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” This is Thompson's favorite scripture because he believes that relating the Bible to life is “extremely important.”
