Mildred “Millie” Frances McKown was granted her angel wings on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. Her final days were spent at home, surrounded by family and friends that she touched in some way throughout her very memorable life.
Millie was born May 11, 1927 in Butler, Ga. to Rufus and Emma Wainwright, who precede her in death.
Millie lived a fulfilling life as a mother, wife, sister, grandmother and friend. She loved fishing and especially enjoyed going with her grandchildren. She was an amazing cook and baker who spoiled her family with sweets. She was especially known for her pecan pies, nut kisses and biscuits. She always looked forward to spending time with her family at the beach, which was her favorite vacation location. She was an avid reader and loved helping in her church kitchen during Bible School, and other occasions.
She is survived in life by her three daughters: Renae Taylor, Gloria Dockery (William) and Robbie Burnett (Paul); nine grandchildren: Dorenda Slaton-Groom (Terry), Shane Slaton (Krissy), Troy McWhorter, Ryan McWhorter, Micca Taylor, Ashley Dockery, Kendra Chester (Patrick), Katie Burnett and Ivey Dockery; and seven great-grandchildren. Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. McKown; three sisters; and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Beggs Funeral Homes, in Monticello, Fla., (850) 997-5612. A visitation will held at 10 a.m., one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Waukeenah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice.
