Mogi Kinsey O’Neil passed away March 11, in Key Largo. She was the daughter of Ernest Thomas Kinsey and Pearl Amelia McNair Kinsey. Mogi was born in 1921 in DeFuniak Springs, Fl. She grew up mainly in Miami where her father had his medical practice. She attended Montverde Academy and Miami Senior High School. Mogi married Vernon Patrick O’Neil in 1941, having met him while she attended Florida State College for Women (now FSU) in Tallahassee and he was attending Naval Flight Training in Pensacola. “Red” made a career in the Navy and they retired to Key Largo in 1966. He passed away in 2004. Mogi and Red had two children: Vernon Patrick O’Neil II, who passed away in 1997, and Mogi, Jr. who lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with her husband, Dick. She leaves three grandsons: Patrick, Ian and Brian; four great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter and two step great-grandchildren. Mogi has been buried in Kinsey Cemetery in Monticello and at her request, there were no services. She was a true daughter of Florida, loving all of its history, people, lands, animals and waters.
