Second Harvest of the Big Bend, Inc is actively making sure that people in counties surrounding Tallahassee, including Madison, have an opportunity to feed their families without a financial burden.
On Thursday, July 2, cars lined the streets of Madison to pick up boxes of food, free of charge, from the Madison Chamber of Commerce. This event, though held at the Chamber, was hosted by Fellowship Baptist Church and more than eight churches were represented through the 40 volunteers present. More than 300 households in the Madison area were given pork loins, canned fruit, canned soup, chili and a box of fresh fruits and vegetables.
There are no qualifications for picking up food at a Second Harvest mobile pantry. After arriving, those picking up food must give a bit of their information, like their address, so that Second Harvest can find out which areas in our communities are not being reached. Currently, Second Harvest distributes 8,476,957 meals a year to people struggling with hunger. Specifically, Second Harvest of the Big Bend serves the counties surrounding Tallahassee, including Madison, Jefferson, Taylor, Leon, Wakulla, Calhoun, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Jackson and Liberty.
The next mobile pantry event will be hosted by New Testament Christian Center on Saturday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. New Testament Christian Center is located at 2558 E Hwy. 90, in Madison.
