“Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.” ~Proverbs 31:10
On July 31, 1917, in Greenville, Fla., Mother Hassie Tina Clemons Glee, 104, of Madison, Fla., was the seventh of 10 children born to Tony and Cernelia Clemons. As the children grew up on their farm in Greenville, Fla., they were instilled with Christian principles and a valuable work ethic. Hassie remained there for 20 years. It was on December 25, 1937, that she and Ulysses Glee, Sr. were united in marriage. Together they worked tirelessly for over 65 years to establish their own family farm, currently known as Glee Heritage Acres.
Mother Glee is preceded in death by her husband, Ulysses Glee, Sr., and two of their children; James Glee and Rose Glee.

Mother Glee completed her formal eighth grade education at New Chapel Church School. She could not go on to high school because there was no high school available for colored students in Madison County. This factor did not deter her from being successful; she simply chose a different career path. As a result, she and her husband gave their children educational opportunities and encouraged others to do likewise.
During her life which spanned a century, Mother Glee was able to experience history in the making. To highlight a few events, she was born towards the end of WWI, survived The Great Depression, Jim Crow laws and the Civil Rights Era, saw rockets launched into space and the first one land on the moon, was able to vote and work as a poll worker, was alive when the first Black U.S. President was elected, as well as live at the time when computers, cell phones, and the internet became the way of life.
“She had come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord.” Having accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age, she became a member of New Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. During her later years, she was chosen to be “Mother” of the church, a responsibility she accepted with honor. She remained an active, faithful member until health challenges prevented her from being able to serve.
“Some glad morning when this life is over, I’ll fly away. To a home on God’s celestial shore, I’ll fly away”. On Sunday, July 24, 2022, one week shy of her 105th birthday, Mother Hassie Clemons Glee peacefully transitioned from labor to reward -- “to a land where joy shall never end”. She was surrounded by her beloved children and grandchildren.
Mother Glee’s legacy of love, strength, faith, goodwill, and family will reign forever. Mourning her passing while cherishing her memory are her children: Evelyn (German) Mobley, Lueva (Thomas) Demps, Verdell Lewis, and Ulysses Glee, Jr.; goddaughter; Carrie Washington; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
