Mother Ida Mae Zimmerman, 86, was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, Fla., she was the daughter of Rosa Way Zimmerman and Henry Zimmerman, Sr.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sons: Tommie Zimmerman, Michael Zimmerman and Harvey Zimmerman; daughter, Michelle Zimmerman; sister, Alberta Zimmerman; and nephew, Gregory Zimmerman.
Celebration of life services, with COVID-19 restrictions, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021, in the sanctuary of New First Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, 6119 Bagley Road, in Jacksonville. Public viewing and visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept.8, 2021 in New First Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, in Jacksonville. Earthly bed of slumber: Restlawn South Memorial Park, in Jacksonville.
Mother Ida was educated in the Duval County public school system. After she completed school, she got married and later began her employment as a domestic worker (housekeeper). Her dedication and work ethic enabled her to help support her family.
Mother Zimmerman was a joyful person and a peacemaker. Her love for the Lord was nurtured from the time she accepted Him as her Savior. Because of that life-changing experience, she chose to live her life so that it would be pleasing in God’s sight. She loved sharing the good news about the Lord, for the joy of the Lord was her strength. Ultimately, her faithfulness as a member of New First Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, in Jacksonville, and the godly manner that she always presented herself, earned her the honor as Church Mother.
Mother Ida loved her family and the times they spent together. She loved her children dearly, but her grandchildren won an extra special place in her heart; they affectionately called her “Grandma Bunchie”. In addition to her family, Mother Ida also enjoyed traveling and reading.
Mother Zimmerman answered the Master’s call and transitioned to her eternal home on Monday, Aug. 30, 2021. She is at peace; her soul is at rest. There is no need for tears, for your love she was so blessed for all those years. Although her loved ones’ hearts are heavy, they can celebrate her life and find comfort in knowing that she is with the Lord.
When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. Forever in the hearts of her loved ones who will treasure her rich legacy of life, love and witness are her sons: Henry Zimmerman and Darryl Zimmerman, both of Jacksonville; and Ronald Zimmerman, of New York City, N.Y.; daughters: Leslie Zimmerman and Ann (Bernard) Richardson, both of Jacksonville; and Brenda Zimmerman, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; brother, Charles (Linda) Zimmerman, of Jacksonville; niece, Loretta Zimmerman, of Jacksonville; beloved cousin, Jeremiah Zimmerman, of Jacksonville; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a host of many other sorrowing relatives and loving friends.
