Betty Jean McLeod, 90, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, surrounded by her family at her home.
She was born in Griffin, Ga., on Feb. 10, 1931. She was the eldest daughter of the late Culver and Ola Barfield. Having spent her life in various places including Griffin, Dade City, Fla., Argentina and Brazil. The last 44 years of her life were spent in Madison, which she considered home.
Betty was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Madison for 44 years, where she took part in the choir and taught Sunday School for children.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth (Margie) McLeod, of Madison; grandson, Jack (Leslie) McLeod, of Madison; granddaughter, Becky (Kyle) Launius, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Sean and Summer McLeod, of Madison; two brothers: Ed Barfield, of Orlando, Fla. and Wendell (Betty) Barfield, of Clearwater, Fla.; one sister, Ruth “Patsy” Vaughn, of Haines City, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Hugh Jack McLeod; and her parents, Culver E and Ola R. Barfield.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, in Madison with burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers friends are encouraged to make donations to Awana at First Baptist Church, in Madison.
