More than 92.1 percent of people in the U.S. are insured. Friday, June 28, has been designated as National Insurance Awareness Day.
Insurance protects against accidents, natural disasters and many other situations, which prevents financial burdens. There are various types of insurance ranging from life to auto coverage.
Modern insurance can be traced back to the Great Fire of London, which happened in 1666. After the fire destroyed more than 30,000 homes, Nicholas Barbon started a building insurance business. Accident insurance was later made available in the late 19th century. Insurance was not mandatory in the U.S. until the 1930s. It wasn’t until the 1980s that car insurance was made mandatory.
Here are some ways to celebrate National Insurance Awareness Day:
• Call your insurance agents to ask about current plans or any changes in your premiums. Make sure that your policy still fits your needs.
• Search for the best deal on your insurance.
• Take charge to change your rates.
• Know what your policy covers.
