Christy Roebuck, of Madison, was recently named director for Saint Leo University’s Lake City Education Center and the Trenton Education Office. She will continue to serve as director of the Madison Education Center. Roebuck replaced Julie Turk, who retired after serving as the Lake City Director since 2012. In addition, Jessica Markham was promoted to the Assistant Director position for Lake City and Trenton. Roebuck has been a Saint Leo University employee for 11 years, beginning when the Madison Education Center first started offering bachelor degrees, she said. She began her Saint Leo career as a Staff Assistant and was promoted over the years. She served as Staff Coordinator, Assistant Academic Advisor and Assistant Director and then became the Director in 2013. She holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration – Management from Saint Leo University and an Associate degree from North Florida Community College. Markham is “homegrown,” having been born and raised in Lake City. She graduated from Florida Gateway College with an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts in Spring 2011. “I can remember driving by the Saint Leo University signs as I was a student at FGC and thinking, ‘I can’t wait to be a university student!’ ” During that time, she was working as a preschool teacher and taught for five years. Markham decided to look for a job outside of child care and was hired as the Staff Assistant for the Lake City Education Center in 2013 and was promoted to Assistant Academic Advisor in 2014.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in December 2013 from Saint Leo and started her MBA in Spring Semester 1 of 2014 and should complete it at the close of Summer Semester. Both Roebuck and Markham are ready to help students in Lake City and Trenton. Roebuck’s goals include increasing student enrollment and graduation rates. “I feel that Saint Leo University offers a wonderful opportunity for the local citizens in area counties to obtain their education.” The university offers convenient, affordable programs. “It is a military friendly university. Courses are offered on-ground, on evenings and weekends, or online and through distance learning,” Roebuck said. “That makes getting an education more accessible while still meeting personal obligations.” Saint Leo University’s Lake City Education Center is located on the campus of Florida Gateway College, 149 S.E. College Place, Lake City, Fl., 32025. The Trenton Education Office is at 334 N.W. 11th Ave., Trenton, Fl., 32693.
