Gillian Treglown joined the teaching staff at James Madison Preparatory High School when school returned back in session, this 2016-2017 school year. Treglown was hired to teach Algebra I and liberal arts to 9th and 10th graders. She also teaches personal finance classes for 9th through 12th graders.
This year will mark the first year of Treglown's teaching career in a school setting, although, she has plenty of experience in this field from her previous job at the CareerSource center, in Madison. At CareerSource, she helped young adults obtain their GED through a drop-out program. This program was designed to help individuals between the ages of 16 through 24 gain the education needed for successful employment.
Treglown, who is from Brevard, NC., received a Bachelor's in Business Administration at Shorter University in Rome, Ga. In college she met her husband, Branton Treglown, who is the youth pastor at the Madison Church of God. He was called into this position of ministry in 2014 and they were married in 2015.
In her classroom, Treglown strives to create a culture where all her students feel loved and safe. “When the students leave my class, I want them to know they have a purpose and to run towards that purpose,” said Treglown.
Treglown said the best thing about being a teacher is she is able to influence students in a positive way and she is learning the diverse personalities of each student. She added that one of the biggest struggles she faces is when the students are not aware of their own potential, as they must want success for themselves. She points out the positive influences in a child's life have an effect on their performance in school, both at home and at school.
When Treglown was asked if she had a favorite quote that has helped to motivate her, she said it was a Bible verse, And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men (Colossians 3:23).
When she is not in the classroom, Treglown and her husband are both heavily involved with the youth group from their church and they love traveling to visit family in North Carolina and Georgia. “Everyday is a new adventure, I love it!” added Treglown.
