North Florida Community College’s (NFCC) Phi Theta Kappa Mu Xi Chapter recently welcomed 55 new members into PTK, the international honor society for two-year colleges. During the induction ceremony, new members recited the PTK Oath of Membership and walked across the stage of the NFCC Fine Arts Auditorium to accept a white rose and membership in the prestigious organization that was established in 1918. David Paulk, instructor of history, world religions and philosophy at NFCC, was the guest speaker.
Paulk encouraged the new PTK members to be strong leaders in education through their example, encouragement and effectiveness. "Congratulations. You've worked very hard to get to this point," said Paulk. "I challenge you tonight to be a person of influence; to be a leader in education. Keep learning and help create a culture of learning."
Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 3 million members and 1,285 chapters around the world. The organization honors and encourages the academic achievement of college students and provides opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 to join PTK.
NFCC students leading the induction ceremony in April at the NFCC Fine Arts Auditorium were PTK officers Taylor Linton (President), Allison Cone (Vice President) and Sara Taylor (Treasurer).
