New Testament Christian School teachers and administration recognized the academic accomplishments of their students during their awards ceremony on Friday, May 26.
Awards were presented to students in all grades (K4 through grade 12). Subject-area awards were presented to students with the highest average in that course. If a student had the highest average in three or more subjects, they received a “Most Outstanding Student” award.
The pre-kindergarten and kindergarten teacher Tina Agner presented awards to those students. K4 award recipients were Liam Doty, Nathaniel Hanks and Adelyn Kinsey. The kindergarten award winners were Noah Fultz and Jace Plain.
Melissa Maurice, first and second grade teacher, presented the awards for that class. James Kinsey won the first-grade spelling award. Sawyer Agner and Logan Doty tied for the second grade science award. Doty also won the bible award for second grade.
Levi Kinsey received the Most Outstanding Student award for first grade for his performance in arithmetic, phonics, science and health.
Two second-grade students received Most Outstanding Student trophies for their hard work. Keon Alexander was rewarded for his work in spelling, science, health, bible and scripture memory. Abigail Riegsecker’s accomplishments in arithmetic, phonics, science and health earned her the outstanding student recognition.
The third and fourth grade student awards were presented by Debbie Starling (due to the passing of their teacher, Donna Waters). Kit Storey and Benjamin Swarbrick tied for the spelling award. Halle Lehman received the fourth grade arithmetic and health trophies. Nathan Reader won the history award for fourth grade.
Gracee Hanks received the award for most outstanding student for third grade. She had the highest averages in arithmetic, language, reading, science, history, bible, health, handwriting and spelling. Cannon Brooker and Kaylee McClune were named outstanding students for fourth grade. Brooker had the highest grades in language and science. McClune topped her class in spelling and reading. Brooker and McClune tied for the highest grade in bible.
Christine Peters, teacher for fifth and sixth grade, presented the awards for her class. Amelia Riegsecker earned the trophies for both fifth grade science and handwriting. Isaac Starling showed his academic prowess in arithmetic, language, reading, spelling, history and bible. The sixth grade top honors were split between two students. Alana Kervin received a Most Outstanding Student trophy for her success in language, spelling and handwriting. Matthew Reader earned his Most Outstanding Student trophy for his performance in arithmetic, reading, science, history and bible earning him a trophy for fifth grade as a Most Outstanding Student.
Andrea Hanks taught the seventh grade class this year, so she had the privilege of presenting those awards. Kristen McClune received the bible award, and Josiah Hanks received the Most Outstanding Student award for seventh grade. He had the highest average for his class in history, arithmetic, English and science.
Every student in the seventh grade class received a special bible award for their outstanding performance in memorizing and reciting the entire 34th chapter of Psalms.
Debbie Starling presented all academic awards for the high school.
Hannah Hanks received the Algebra 1 award. There was a tie for the economics award – Hannah Hanks and Stephanie Swarbrick. Sarah Green was rewarded for her accomplishments in Algebra 2. Leanna Kinsey had the highest averages in American Government, chemistry, English, personal finance, bible and geometry.
Honor roll trophies were given out to students on the “B” honor roll, the “A” honor roll and the “All A” honor roll. (The “A” honor roll recipients had an overall “A” average for the year. The “All A” honor roll students made only “A”s on their report card for the entire year).
“B” honor roll recipients were: Jonathan Kinsey, Shawn Medders, Caitlyn Jordan and Hayley Trent.
“A” honor roll recipients were Kit Storey, Benjamin Swarbrick, Cannon Brooker, Nathan Reader, Alana Kervin, Matthew Reader, Kristen McClune, Dalton Cochran, Erin Taylor, Lexie Reyna, Gabriel Kervin and Brittany Edwards.
“All A” honor roll achievers were Levi Kinsey, James Kinsey, Sawyer Agner, Keon Alexander, Logan Doty, Abigail Riegsecker, Amelia Riegsecker, Isaac Starling, Josiah Hanks, Hannah Hanks, Savannah Pitts, Leanna Kinsey, Stephanie Swarbrick, Sarah Green and Kaitlyn Kinsey.
The three seniors were also presented with trophies in honor of their upcoming graduation. These seniors were A.J. Doyle, Brittany Edwards and Kaitlyn Kinsey.
Principal Riegsecker presented the final award of the evening. This award is The Most Christ-like Award. This award is determined by a vote in which all members of the eighth through 12 grade students, along with the faculty and staff, participate. The 2016-17 Most Christ-like Award recipient was Kaitlyn Kinsey.
Following the awards ceremony, everyone present gathered in the church fellowship hall for refreshments.
