Jan E. Cone, age 86, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 23. She had resided in Greenville, Fl. for 25 years, but has lived the last eight months at Southern Living for Seniors in Madison. Jan grew up in Homerville, Ga. and attended Homerville High School. She was a homemaker and lived most of her life in Madison County. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking and seek-a-word puzzles. Her greatest joy came from cooking for her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by one sister, Sue Williams of Cherry Lake, Fl.; four children: Martha (Bradley) Smith of Starke, Fl., Patricia (Jim) Whitehead of Tallahassee, Dama (Jeff) Murphy of Crawfordville and John (Kathy) Panaway of Live Oak. She has seven grandchildren: Jennifer Phillips, Andy Smith, Katherine Chaplin, Travis and Brian Tucker, Lee and Chase Panaway and eight great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, E.C. Cone and was blessed with four step children: Edward (Janice) Cone of Atlanta, Derryl (Selina) Cone of Keystone Heights, Larry (Connie) Cone of Tavares and Glenda (Tom) Bass of Kissimmee, eight step grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at Beggs Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, September 26 at 2 p.m. with Andy Creel officiating. Internment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation with the family will be at Beggs Funeral Home on Friday, September 25 from 5-7 p.m.
