Mildred Florine Driggers Townsend, 86, of Mayo, Fl., passed away August 15, at Haven Hospice of Lake City following an extended illness. Ms. Townsend was born April 21, 1929 in Greenville, Fl., to Elisha Washington Driggers and Fair Rene Clayton Driggers. She was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Mildred worked for many years as a cook at Byrds Cafe and also the Lazy L Burger Hut. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, fishing, crocheting and visiting with friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elisha Washington Driggers and Fair Rene Driggers; and two brothers: C.L. Driggers and Johnnie Driggers.
She is survived by two sons: Cecil Townsend, and wife Tressie of Branford, and Albert "Squeak" Townsend, and wife Candy; her daughter, Iris Fairine Townsend, and husband Calvin Stubbs, all of Mayo; one step-daughter, Carolyn Bradley, of Mayo; one brother, Pasco L. "Pete" Driggers, and wife Nancy, of West Columbia, S.C.; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home of Mayo on Tuesday, August 18, at 2 p.m., in Mayo with Bro. Freddie Edwards and Bro. Charlie Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Oakridge Cemetery in Madison. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., on Monday, August 17, also at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home of Mayo.
