Rev. Manning J. Hicks, Jr., was born on October 26, 1925 in Lee, Florida. Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church Madison, Fl., on Tuesday, June 16 at 11 a.m., with visitation one-hour prior. Interment was at Midway Cemetery.
His parents were Manning J. Hicks, Sr. and Manda Thomas Hicks, both deceased.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Letha Buchanan Hicks; three children: Rose Hicks Oberlin of Jacksonville, Lynne Hicks Sapp of Madison and Manning Jay Hicks, III of Madison; three grandchildren: Stephanie Sapp, Christie Sapp Bradfield (Troy) and Kayla Sapp; two great
He was preceded in death by two sisters: one who died at birth, and Gracie Hicks Webb; and two brothers: Chatman Hicks and Cecil Hicks.
He held a Bachelor’s Degree from Valdosta State University and Southeastern Baptist Seminary. He also earned a Master’s in Divinity from Southeastern Seminary and Master’s and Specialist Degrees from Georgia State University.
He was a Baptist preacher for 70 years, pasturing churches in Florida, North Carolina, Alabama and Georgia, and serving as Director of Missions for the Middle Florida Baptist Association. He was also a schoolteacher, teaching Georgia and U.S. History for twenty years.
He loved the Lord his God with all his heart, soul, mind and strength; and he loved his neighbor as himself.
