Nelson A. Pryor: Guest Columnist
Did you know that Congressman Al Lawson (CD 5), is now anti-gun? Yes, he’s the co-sponsor of H R 1808, this current 117th Congressional session’s anti-gun bill.
Our Congressman, a North Florida Democrat, along with 211 other Democrats, with no Republicans, co-sponsored the sixty-page bill.
It’s expected to pass the House of Representatives this week, but, it’s not expected to pass the Senate once it moves over there.
Near Indianapolis, Ind.
Just this past Sunday, July 17, 2022, in Greenwood, Ind., a gunman, with two weapons, and more than 100 rounds of ammunition, was taken down by a legally armed, constitutional carry, bystander, 22-year-old Elisjsha Dicken.
These are North Florida values in action. Something that our representative in Washington has discarded.
St. Charles, Mo.
The day before, July 16, a one-man crime spree was ended when the suspect of a carjacking and armed robbery (a knife to the throat of a cashier) was fired upon by a witness, and killed.
North Florida Values
We need more witnesses, legally carrying, to protect and defend our citizens, not fewer. But Congressman Lawson seemingly has forgotten all this, thrown in the towel, and joined the Washington crowd.
Moving In The Right Circles
For a young man from the fields of Gadsden County, Fla., to “going Washington”, the spotlight would shine on the orbit of movers and shakers like Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House.
Acceptance is a wonderful thing. And Al Lawson was ready. He had moved up, from government office to government office, until he was now in the big time. North Florida values were now expendable.
Hob knobbing with Nancy was big time. No matter the cost to his district. After all, both she and her husband, Paul, were big time, who inhabit two homes, including a 16.55-acre gated estate in California, who mingle with other rich residents.
The Pelosis
The Pelosis have had a weekend home in the Napa Valley since 1990, when they spent $2.35 million for their property, which came with a Palladian-style villa, guesthouse and pool.
“It even has a vineyard, from which they sell grapes,” writes the June 26, 2022 New York Times, p. st10.
The Pelosis usually host two big summer gatherings, a Memorial Day weekend dinner; and a regular big fundraiser dinner for many of the Democratic Party’s biggest names.
Pelosi’s Rise
Nancy Pelosi’s rise in politics began as a fund-raiser. In 1986, Congresswoman Sala Burton, a Pelosi family friend, entered the hospital with terminal cancer. A special election to replace her was scheduled.
Mrs. Pelosi decided to run for her seat, and with Mrs. Burton’s endorsement, days before she died, turned the tide for Pelosi and Pelosi won. The rest is history.
Stalled
Even those who fawn over Pelosi, as does Big Al, the House Democrats appear poised for a shellacking this fall, which would mean Rep. Pelosi would have to hand over the speaker’s gavel, 35 years into her congressional career.
