How did the Republican Party get a hold on the South?
“Yellow Dog Democrats” had ruled the South from 1876 to probably about 1980. First, let’s define “Yellow Dog Democrat.” A Yellow Dog Democrat was one who was not a radical Republican. During Reconstruction, after the War Between the States had ended, Democrats were generally conceived as hard working and ready to get on with life. The opposite, Republicans, were considered as radicals, carpet
