Edward and Ashley Hutchinson are the new youth pastors at Bible Deliverance Church in Madison. They have served in this position for approximately one month. In spite of being new to this ministry, they feel they “have had some pretty amazing progress so far.”
Prior to coming to Bible Deliverance Church, they were active members at Lee First Baptist Church, but they both felt the calling to take on the role of youth pastor and leader at Bible Deliverance Church.
“We were both confused why God was directing us in that direction, but we accepted it, and moved into His will,” they said.
“It soon became very clear why He wanted us right there, right then,” they continued.
God’s timing is always perfect when you stay in His will. “He’s given us everything we needed to cover every fear we had coming into this. We don’t know how really to describe it other than ‘It’s a God thing!’ Now we are blessed to have not one, but two churches praying heavily and supporting us and this ministry. We also have had other local youth groups who would like to team up for some fun youth events, so that will be in our plans, too!”
The name of the church’s youth group is “Rooted,” and young people ages 10-years-old and up are eligible to be a part of the group. The name “Rooted” is based on the scripture passage Colossians 2:6-7, “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
“We want all of these teens to grow spiritually strong, with deep roots for God that will never be moved! We are discussing exactly what being rooted in Christ means, as well as the fundamentals of being a Christian in today’s world. What these teens face on a daily basis is not an easy task, so we want to reassure them they can always turn to God and focus on the Problem Solver, instead of their problems”, continued the Hutchinsons.
The teens motivate and inspire the Hutchinsons. Even more so considering their progress in the short amount of time they’ve been at the church. “This has been such a blessing and motivation,” the Hutchinsons stated.
The Hutchinsons feel challenged to stay on top of their own scripture reading. They are pleased the youth have embraced the relaxed atmosphere they desire for study and worship. They say the discussions are always very open as they go through the lessons with the youth. “These guys and girls are becoming shining examples for everyone to see around them,” they said.
When asked about their motivation, the Hutchinsons had a clear response, “Seeing the way (these young people) are being inspired and saved... (this) is our number one goal.”
They have two favorite passages of scripture: the first one is, Colossians 2:6-7. Their second is 1 Timothy 4:12, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.” (NIV)
