Ms. Pauline Elizabeth Stokes, 89, passed away on Monday, July 4, in Madison, following an extended illness. Pauline was born March 23, 1927 in Lee, to Mr. Edgar Stokes and Mrs. Susie Mae Driggers Stokes. She attended and was a graduate of Madison High School. Pauline was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. She worked as a secretary at Lee Junior High School for 39 years and also served for many years as treasurer for Beulah Baptist Church. After retiring, she did some traveling and read lots of romance novels. Through the years she collected Avon bottles and enjoyed crocheting, cross stitching, and embroidering.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by two brothers, Edgar Eugene (Gereldine) Stokes, of Lee and Robert Drew (Peggy) Stokes, of Madison; one sister, Carolyn Lavonne (Tom) Wade, of Tallahassee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The funeral service for Ms. Stokes was held on Wednesday, July 6, at 11 a.m., at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. T.J. Santerfeit and Rev. Ronnie Combass officiating. Interment services followed in the Beulah Baptist Cemetery.
The family received friends from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m., prior to the service.
Arrangements were under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Madison.
