Penny Day Barrs, 76, of Madison, Fla., went home to rest with our Heavenly Father on Friday, Sept. 25, 2020 surrounded by her loving family following many years of battling chronic lung illnesses. She was the daughter of the late Rauden and Tootsie Day of Madison, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her beloved aunt, Marjorie Roberts; and her brothers: Puggy Day and Tommy Henderson.
Penny Elizabeth Day, born Feb. 28, 1944 in Madison county where she was raised and graduated from Madison High school in 1962 where she was a cheerleader and well known for her style as "Best Dressed." She continued her education attending North Florida Junior College. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Madison. After 25 years of loyal service, she retired in 1996 as Assistant Vice President of Bank of America, formerly Bank of Madison County.
Penny is survived by Eddie Lee Barrs "Junior," her dedicated, loving and caring husband of more than 50 years; and her three children: Kim (John) Cunningham of Flagler Beach, Fla., Jenny (Robbie) Schaefer of Citrus Springs, Fla. and Derek of St Augustine, Fla. Also her five grandchildren: Holly (Chris) Bishop, Kailey (Justin) Barber, Luke (Malory) Aldridge, Brett Barrs and Bentley Barrs; and four great-grandchildren: Mckenli Bishop, Beckett Bishop, Grady Aldridge, Kinsleigh Cox and one on the way in 2021. She is survived also by her brother, Terry (Peggy) Day of Monticello, Fla.; many loving nieces and nephews; and her sisters-in-love: Julia Harmon, Eunice Dugas and Frances Blanton.
Viewing and visitation services were held Sunday, Sept 27, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home in Madison, Fla; immediately followed by a procession to the graveside service held at Midway Baptist Church in Lee, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, Jr. and Penny were long time supporters of St. Judes Children's Hospital, and ask that any donations be made in her memory.
