This past weekend was “official” peanut-picking time at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. Church members are working hard preparing for the 27th Annual Founder’s Day event at the church, and picking off about 20 bushels of fresh green peanuts, blanching them and putting them in the freezer.
Nearly 40 folks from the church and community came early on Saturday, Aug. 26 and worked till mid- afternoon picking the peanuts.
The church would like to thank Willie and his son, Willie Jr. (BoBo) (as everyone calls him), for growing the peanuts on his farm. The Agners have grown the peanuts for Founder’s Day ever since it began.
Founder’s Day is about six weeks away. The date of this years Founder’s Day is Saturday, Oct. 21.
Make plans to come and enjoy a day at church. There will be plenty of food and all kinds of activities for the kids. Everyone is welcome.
