The American legion and Auxiliary Post #224 in Cherry Lake has put together a day of fun events, from a 5K run to a chili cook-off with an unlimited sampling of chili for those who come to the event.
On Saturday, Feb. 27, businesses, civic organizations, law enforcement and citizens are invited to enter their own chili to the competition along with an entry fee of $10.
There will be awards for first and second place winners.
Those interested in entering the Polar Bear Run must request a sign up sheet either from the American Legion at Cherry Lake or by contacting Stuart Scott at (850) 443-8769. T-shirts will be available for those who sign up.
Those interested in sponsoring and having their business logo on the back of the runner’s t-shirts must also go up to the American Legion Post #224 or contact Stuart Scott. There are multiple options for logo sizes and pricing and space is limited, so call early to get the best choices for promoting your business.
Taste testing for the public is $5 along with a wristband and a spoon for unlimited sampling of chili.
Those who participate in the 8:30 a.m. run are invited, after the run’s completion, to jump into Cherry Lake as part of the ‘polar bear challenge.’
All proceeds from the event will go towards helping veterans in the community with many different projects; such as repairing homes and assisting with temporary lodgings.
Those interested in entering their chili in the competition can do so with a $10 fee and by sending an application to polarbearrunpost244@gmail.com.
