Purvis Kay "P.K." Hamrick, age 87, passed away Jan. 26, 2020, at his home on the family farm west of Greenville, Fla.
He was born April 17, 1932, on the same farm to the late Reuben F. and Eddie Scott Hamrick. He lived his entire life on the same farm. He was the third generation to own and operate the family farm. Farming ran deep in his blood. Through the years, he had produced beef, pork, tobacco, corn, hay and various other crops. He particularly enjoyed working with his cows. He had a strong work ethic and worked every day on his farm until age 82 when health problems forced him to retire.
In 1978, his family was named Madison County's Outstanding Farm Family and in 1993, he was named Conservation Farmer of the Year. He had served on the Board of Directors for the Madison County Tobacco Warehouse, the Madison Farmers Co-op and the ASCS office. He was very proud that the fourth and fifth generations were carrying on the farming tradition.
Mr. Hamrick was an avid and talented fisherman. No matter if it was his farm, ponds, local rivers, lakes or the Gulf of Mexico, he was always ready for a fishing trip.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Beggs Chapel in Madison, Fla. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Beggs Chapel.
