Rae Miller McClure, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022. She was born in Gainesville, Fla. on Easter Sunday, April 16, 1933, to Effie Pritchett Miller and James Theodore “J.T.” Miller, Jr. Rae married her college sweetheart, John Robert McClure, Jr., in 1956 in her hometown of Palatka, Fla. Bob and Rae celebrated 66 years of marriage and unwavering devotion last July.
Rae graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Elementary Education and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. In her freshman year, a mutual friend set Rae and Bob up on a blind date, beginning a life of unconditional love for each other, as well as for their community of family, extended family, friends, church families and even strangers. Shortly after they were married, they moved to Fort Benning, Ga. where Bob graduated from Ranger school. After four years in Fort Kit Carson in Colorado Springs, Colo., they decided to make Tallahassee their home.
She loved the Lord with all her heart, soul and mind and this love was poured out to everyone she knew. She adopted several children from The Lighthouse Children's Home and from Uganda through Wildwood's Hope Street Ministry and spent many hours volunteering at A Women's Pregnancy Center. She was an ardent student and lover of God's Word which strengthened her daily and eventually led her on a trip to Israel where she was able to walk in the steps of Jesus and see firsthand the places that she had learned so much about. She served others with a joyful heart and will be remembered for her kindness, humility, and grace.
She is survived by her husband, Bob McClure; her children: Mary Ann Robinson (David), Leila McClure and Bob McClure (Julie); five grandchildren: Bryan Robinson (Lydia), Julianne Robinson, David Hill Robinson, Clara Frances McClure and Anne Jackson McClure Shenker (John Samuel) and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Julia Robinson.
A heartfelt thank you to the special people in our lives who have cared so lovingly for Bob and Rae: Annie Lee, Olga, Kike, Aileen, Bridget, Taj, Tamara and Shonda, in addition to all The Visiting Angels. We will be forever grateful.
A celebration of life was held at Wildwood Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
