Students from public and private schools, in grades fourth through sixth, competed in the Madison County 4-H Tropicana Speech Contest on Thursday, Nov. 19. At stake was a chance for all first place winners to win a scholarship to 4-H Camp Cherry Lake and for all first and second place county winners to compete at the District IV Events Competition on May 7, 2016. The District Events will be held in Taylor County. Abby Ratliff, a student at Madison County Central School, won first place for the sixth grade for her speech on “Showtime.” Merridy Archambault, from Madison Academy, garnered second place for her speech on “A Sister with Misophonia.” Jalexus Bryant, from LATMA, finished third for the sixth grade presenters with her speech on “Can a Snapping Turtle Really Snap.” Sydney Braswell, of Greenville Elementary School, won first place for fifth grade for her speech on “Young Military Training.” Ethan Myers, from Lee Elementary School, finished second for his speech on “Universal Orlando.” Katie Krell, from Madison Academy, finished third with a speech on “The Pros and Cons of Technology.” Amari Neely, from Madison County Central School, won honorable mention for his speech on “The Marvelous Courageous MCCS.” Jack Agee, from Pinetta Elementary School also received honorable mention with his speech on “Old Glory.” Gracie Jenkins, from Madison Academy, was the fourth grade winner for her speech, “The Disadvantages of being the Oldest and Only Girl Child in the Family.” J’nariez Miller, from Greenville Elementary School, was second place with the speech, “My Family Reunion.” Taylor Perkins-Vickers, from Madison County Central School, won third place for her speech on “No Bullying.” Josie Driggers, from Pinetta Elementary School, won honorable mention for the speech, “The Apple Juice Adventure.” Chase Taylor, from Lee Elementary School, also won honorable mention for his speech on “The Good and Bad of Food.”
