The Madison County High School (MCHS) tennis team’s season wrapped up on Thursday, April 7, which was followed by districts the next week, officially ending the season.
The MCHS tennis team involved 12 boys and girls. Blake Grass, a tenth grader at James Madison Preparatory High School (JMPHS) said,” I joined the tennis team as a fun challenge to do in my spare time.” Grass was the fourth seed on the MCHS tennis team. When asked, Yanet Serrano, a senior at MCHS, if she would recommend this sport to others, she stated,” Yes, the sport is tranquil compared to other athletic activities. Tennis is a sport where you learn to be diligent, patient and learn about the depth of your inner strength. I enjoyed my four years with the MCHS tennis team, and I got to meet some great people and make amazing friends.” Serrano was the second seed on the MCHS tennis team and went to semifinals for singles and doubles.
The opponents they faced, either home or away, were well-fought battles. While most of the time, the cowboys were not victorious, they emerged with new experiences and leveled up their playing field. Ja'Mesia Ray, a freshman at MCHS, said her favorite thing about this tennis season was the new experience and stated that,” This was the first time I considered playing a sport... New friendships were made and everyone has an amazing personality.” She was the sixth seed on the MCHS tennis team, and is excited to play next season. Terrance Watts, a tenth grader at JMPHS, said his favorite memory from tennis was,” Jamming to music on the way to tennis games.” Watts was the second seed on MCHS tennis team.
On the court, in between games, players were training and competing against each other for a higher rank, with Watts and Grass battling it out on the court for the second seed. Sarah Androski, a freshman this year at JMPHS said,” It's fun to play and be part of a team.” Androski was the seventh seed on the cowboy's tennis team, and looks forward to next year's tennis season.
