Ronald Fay Poor, 83, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 9. He was an intensely devoted husband and follower of Jesus Christ and a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He met the love of his life, Anna Jeannette Stafford, in high school in Gadsden, Ala., and they married June 29, 1959. Ron was ordained as a Baptist preacher and served as an assistant pastor, until enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he served for six years both in Vietnam and South Korea. Upon separating from the Army, he became a police officer in Coral Gables, Fla. and served his community with honor, grace and distinction for 25 years. He and Jeannette left their home in Homestead, Fla. following hurricane Andrew in 1992, and after a short time in New Mexico, they settled down in Greenville, Fla. Ron has been a stalwart example of a disciple of Jesus Christ his entire adult life. When not preaching, he served as a Sunday school teacher, spending countless hours weekly studying, alongside his wife, preparing for each class to bolster the faith and understanding of those in his class.
Ron is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anna Jeannette Poor, his children; Jana Leigh Brinn, Rhonda Lynne Cooper and Ronald Fay Poor Jr., his grandchildren; Anna Martin, Christina Hoagland, Sherry Martin, Stephanie Cooper and Christopher Brinn, as well as his great-grandchildren, Savannah Martin, Daniela Hoagland, Rafael Hoagland, Emmett Martin, Fiona Hoagland and Ezekial Brinn.
Ron will be remembered by his family, friends, coworkers and even the criminals he apprehended, by his calm demeanor, his compassion and steadfast example as a light of Jesus Christ.
A graveside service was held on Saturday, June 11, on Saturday, at 2 p.m., at Cherry Lake Baptist Church.
