The mission of the Rotary Youth Camp, Inc. is to help children with physical or mental disabilities have social and physical interactions with other children while developing life-long relationships with each other and the counselors. This year the camp will host two one weeklong sessions. The camp costs $1,600 per camper, about $80,000 total. The camp is free to campers through donations. During the day the campers participate in camp activities such as swimming, horseback riding, archery, scuba, fishing, crafts and a variety of social activities. After dinner, they have dances, talent shows and campfires. Through their participation in these activities, the children experience independence and success that they can carry with them into their daily lives. This also provides a break for their caregivers. The camp also has a fulltime nurse on staff to treat the campers since many take medication that needs to be monitored. Madison Rotary Club presented Dove with a $1,500 check for the camp. Guest Steve Green of Burns Funeral Home pledged $500 to bring the donation up to $2,000. Rotary Youth Camp is located at Wallwood Boyscout Camp on Lake Talquin, Quincy, Fl. If you know a child who would benefit from camp, call (850) 328-0302.
