Members of the Madison County School Board attended the Annual Summer Conference held by the Florida School Boards Association (FSBA) and the Florida Association of District School Superintendents (FADSS). Surretta Bell, Carol Gibson, Bart Alford and Franklin Carroll joined nearly 350 school board members, district superintendents and other education leaders at the annual FSBA/FADSS conference, in Tampa, Fla., on Wednesday, June 9, through Friday, June 11.
The conference kicked off Wednesday with FSBA Executive Officer, Committee, and Board of Directors' Meetings.
Thursday began with a networking breakfasts and an opening general session featuring keynote speaker, Brandon Fleming, Assistant Debate Coach for Harvard University and Founder and CEO of the Harvard Diversity Project. Fleming spoke on “Critical Thinking for Critical Times.” Following the General Session was the FSBA General Membership Meeting. To end day two, attendees could participate in breakout sessions, discussing topics such as response to the community during COVID-19, learning during COVID-19, elevating student voices, addressing mental health during and post COVID-19, great governance and the intersection between education and industry.
Dr. Helen Fagan, founder of Global Leadership Group, began the last day of the conference speaking on “Becoming Inclusive- A Worthy Pursuit in Leadership.” The conference ended with a briefing on the 2021 Legislative Session and implications of policy changes.
