On Tuesday, April 12, the Madison County School District hosted a banquet at Divine Events to honor the 2016 School Related Employees of the Year of their select schools in Madison County and to announce the School Related Employee of the Year for the Madison County School District.
After Superintendent Doug Brown gave a welcoming message and invocation, a delightful lunch of fried chicken, rice, salad and green beans, complete with delectable desserts, was served.
Each School Related Employee of the Year was recognized and presented a plaque by the administrator or principal of their respected school. Morris Bell received the award for Madison County Excel, Laysha Brinson received the award for Madison County Central School, Evelyn Chancy received the award for Madison County High School, Elijah Davis received the award for Lee Elementary School, Jennifer Fulmer received the award for the Madison County School District Transportation Department and Lisa Golden received the award for DJJ; Nancy Hall was the recipient for Pinetta Elementary School, Teresa Jennings received the award for Greenville Elementary and Kathy Smith received the award for the Madison County School District office.
Although Brown emphasized that every single one of the nominees deserved the School Related Employee of the Year award, only one winner could be chosen. Kathy Smith was selected as the School Related Employee of the Year for the entire district.
Smith, a school employee at the Madison County School District (MCSD) office, has been employed by the school system in the county for three years as the Administrative Assistance in federal and state programs. Smith provides assistance to the Federal Programs Coordinator, Paula Ginn, in the management of all federal program activities. Smith also collects information and data for local and state reporting in regards to the schools and the school district, assists with purchase orders and provides assistance in the area of invoices, time sheets, pay roll, data entry and much more. Before coming to work at the MCSD office, Smith was employed at the Bank of Madison for five years (from 1979 to 1985) and then at North Florida Community College for 27 years (from 1985 to 2013).
Smith and her husband, Randy both reside in Madison County along with Smith’s parents, Bobby and Mary Lou Surles; her brother, Bobbie Surles, Jr. and her in-laws, Junior and Beverly Smith.
The 2016 School Related Employee of the Year banquet was a great success. Principals, employees, friends and family enjoyed the event and came together to honor the School Related Employees of the Year, who are “the backbone” of all of the schools in Madison County, according to Brown.
Congratulations to all School Related Employee of the Year recipients!
