On Wednesday, March 22, at approximately 4 p.m., a 2009 Mack semi-truck, owned by Singletary Trucking, and driven by Gideon Elliot Suggs, of Live Oak, ran off the roadway, jumped the curb, ran over a speed limit sign, and crashed into the old Madison Glass building, located at 118 E.

A semi-truck jumped a curb and collided with a building on E. Base St., causing significant damage to the recently renovated building.
Base St. The truck was traveling south on Washington Ave. and made a left turn onto E. Base St. According to the driver, the wheel would not turn, resulting in the collision; however, when Madison Police Department Patrol Officer William Walker inspected the vehicle after the crash, he found no mechanical deficiencies that would have prevented its ability to turn.
The collision caused significant damage to the front of the building, which has been undergoing recent renovations. The double-plate glass window frame was knocked out, causing the panes to shatter into the building's interior. Suggs was cited for failing to maintain a lane and conducting an improper turn. The vehicle was removed by the owner, and the driver was not in need of medical attention. No injuries were reported.
