America's Second Harvest of the Big Bend is expanding in their attempt to meet the needs of the seniors in the Big Bend area. They are now delivering food items to the Senior Citizens Center, located in the Industrial Park at 1161 SW Harvey Greene Drive. You must be registered with Second Harvest to pick up food items. If you are registered, the next delivery date is Wednesday, Sept. 6, from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Seniors do not even have to leave their vehicle to pick up items. Staff will be on hand to help load the bags into vehicles. If you are not registered, you may call Second Harvest at (850) 562-3033 to see if you financially qualify.
The Senior Citizens Center is now a community partner with the Florida Department of Children and Families. For the convenience of Madison County residents, the center has a computer, provided by DCF, for the purpose of completing applications to any DCF program. Center hours are from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. If you are a Senior, there will be someone to assist you in your application. Seniors may call Gianni Jackson at (850) 973-4241 to make an appointment for assistance. Jackson will schedule a mutually agreeable time for you to receive the help you need.
